43 Books That Actually Changed People’s Lives: Today in Critical Linking

We recently asked subscribers of the BuzzFeed Books newsletter to tell us about a book that changed their lives. There’s something here for everyone, so take your pick — and get ready to be inspired.

We all have one or two, but here are 43 Books That Actually Change People’s Lives all in one place.

I tallied the most frequently assigned books at all U.S. colleges and universities and compared them to the list at seven Ivy League schools — Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Columbia, U. Penn and Brown (Dartmouth doesn’t seem to appear in the Explorer’s database — more on that below).

If you want to try to guess the top 10 books assigned in colleges and universities, I think you are going to have a very hard time.

“It’s a bit of a sinister landscape,” author and illustrator Andrew DeGraff says of his hand-painted map inspired by the 1963 sci-fi classic A Wrinkle in Time. The stunning map, which took DeGraff around 140 hours to create, uses colored lines to represent each fictional character’s journey through the galaxy of Madeleine L’Engle’s beloved children’s book, with detailed illustrations of each of the planets they visit along the way.

Beautiful map of A Wrinkle in Time.
