I’m absolutely in love with this simple, yet so very sweet, gift for parents. Add your family (and pet!) names, dates of birth, and any other special dates to your custom print and hang it in a place of honor next to the bookcase. Choose from multiple color palettes as well to find one that works best for your parents.
Agate Book Ends
If you’re looking for a gift that will make your parent’s bookshelves extra fancy, these agate book ends are it! They add a bright pop of color to the shelf while also not taking up too much room—because you need to leave plenty of room for books, after all! They’re also great for creating an attractive book display on any flat surface: a dresser, a mantle, a countertop, or anywhere else that hasn’t already been taken over by books. In fact, these book ends will make your parent’s books look so great, you’ll probably have to teach them how to Bookstagram next.
For the book-loving parent who likes a cup of tea while reading, what could be better than this Alice in Wonderland inspired gift from Novel Tea Tins? The loose leaf tea is the perfect pairing for any good book, and the customized book tin is just stunning. It’s a two-in-one gift really– great tea plus some decorative secret storage for the book shelf!
I’m guessing I’m not alone when I say that if I had to choose whether to have more space for plants in my home or more space for books, I’d go with books every time. (This is only partly because I am far better at reading than gardening.) But now, you and the loved ones in your life can have both! A bookish planter will fit right in to any plant owner’s home, and as a bonus, succulents are among the easiest plants to care for since they don’t need much. And a gift that requires very little maintenance is the greatest gift of all.
You can never have too many tote bags– especially ones this lovely, with a black and white floral print and a gorgeous William Blake quote. Whether your parent needs a new bag to tote around all those heavy books or just a fashionable new accessory, this is the perfect gift. Now they too can “wash the dusk with silver.”
A graphic memoir about an only child coping with her aging and eventually dying parents might not seem like the most sensitive gift. But it’s a beautiful book that is guaranteed to start some important family conversations. Also if your parents have a certain sense of humor, they could find it hilarious. For example, I’m 99% sure my mom would get a huge kick out of this while my dad might get offended.
I’m on my 4th diaper bag. As I didn’t make good diaper bag-buying decisions, let me tell you what’s essential. It must be able to hold all the child’s needs, plus everything that normally goes in a purse. While purse diaper bags seem chic, when you’re chasing a toddler and hauling its squirming body away from mischief, it tends to fall and hang heavy and awkward on your wrist. While I’m currently using a backpack diaper bag, it’s far too tiny to hold books, which means every time I visit the library or bookstore, I’m forced to carry a load of books, a diaper bag, and a squirming toddler. I dream of a diaper bag like this—chic, bookish, large.
The perfect addition to the mug collection of tea-loving parents everywhere! This gorgeous mug features a quote from Jane Austen: “I would rather have nothing but tea.” Hear, hear, Jane! The lovely design is made up of a pattern of tiny tea cups, and it couldn’t be any cuter. Pair it with their favorite tea for a thoughtful, personalized gift.
Soothe your parent’s sore reading neck and shoulders with this microwavable rice bag, featuring a bright stained glass print of the four Hogwarts Houses. The large size makes this bag perfect for soothing the lower back and other large areas of the body. Add an optional scent, such as peppermint or eucalyptus for a bit of aromatherapy. Microwave for heat treatment or freeze for cold treatment. Give the gift of relaxation with this comforting rice bag.
I have become that mom who wants to coordinate outfits with her daughter. But like many moms, I wouldn’t spend 40+ dollars to do so. That’s what makes this the perfect gift. And there are a lot of options. I went with llamas because my daughter LOVES Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney, so much so that we all call ourselves llamas now, but these Where the Wild Things Are shirts are pretty awesome too. All you need to do is find out what the child’s favorite book is, and you have the perfect family gift.
This Maya Angelou print is the perfect gift to remind your parent just how awesome and resilient they are. The black and white typography has a beautiful modern, minimalist look, and it commemorates a truly iconic poet. Mixing literature and design–it doesn’t get any better than that.
I love to customize my books. For years, I would buy sets of bookplates, but these rubber stamps changed everything. The designs are beautiful and pristinely executed, the stamps easy to maintain, and the artists incredibly professional. They will run the custom design by you and make sure that all is as you want it before shipping the item to you. I have had my own stamp for a year now and am never looking back.
Some people take pride in their eyesight. Others take pride in the glasses, like me. In any case, glasses are here to stay, along with contacts and Lasic surgery. We need them to see, to navigate the world and to read.
This owl-shaped eyeglasses holder is a perfect place to rest your reading glasses, and to reassure us that we can add an adorable factor. The ridges are tactile, and the owl seems to approve of the prescription.
These hand-crafted American White Oak bookends spent the first part of their lives as barrels aging Kentucky bourbon. They live on as the perfect gift for bourbon- and book-loving parents. Handmade in Little Rock, Arkansas, each set of bookends is unique and will be sure to last longer than any bottle of bourbon ever would!
For the parent with a green thumb and a love of Shakespeare. Just add water to this growbar full of sweet violet, marigold and columbine seeds to get a collection of flowers straight from the lines of Shakespeare. This makes such a fun and creative gift. I can’t imagine any parent who wouldn’t enjoy a Shakespearean growbar for their windowsill!
This Spider-Man Inspired Etched Pint Glass is a reminder that parents are everyday heroes. Make it extra special by getting it personalized with your parent’s name or better yet, what you call them. Spider-Man happens to be my dad’s favorite but this shop has a selection of both Marvel and DC characters.
I feel like I’ve been waiting my whole life for something like ckbk, a monthly subscription site that puts the world’s best cookbooks at your fingertips. Fully searchable by ingredients, dishes, authors, books, cuisine, style, occasion, and more, this is a phenomenal resource for anyone in your life who cooks. You can also search by era, which absolutely blows my mind. To say that I’m obsessed is an understatement. Some of the cookbooks on the site I also have on my shelves and it’s great to be able to have them in an easily searchable form. Along with recipes, ckbk also includes cooking reference books. Ckbk gets my highest recommendations.
No matter how many millions of recipes populate the internet, there will always be something about a cookbook. My mom still uses the same cookbooks she’s been using for decades, and the way they have handwritten notes and vanilla extract stains throughout makes them precious to me in a way that an online recipe just isn’t. But if we have one strong family trait (besides a deep love of sarcasm) it’s practicality, and there’s nothing fun or sentimental about having to use a variety of pots and bags of flour to hold a cookbook open. So do the cookbook devotee in your life a favor and get them a cookbook stand.
If you and your mom and like me and mine, you go into every True Crime documentary or murder mystery just sending side-eye and knowing glances to one another. With this T-shirt, she doesn’t have to say anything at all, but still gets to say I told you so.
My dad reads, but he doesn’t usually read fiction. He liked these books, though, because they played like western movies in his head. If your dad likes westerns, and he has a plane trip coming up, this trilogy might be the perfect gift for him. (I love these books, too, though, so maybe your mom will like them, too!)
The Shire Candle
Transport your parents straight to the Shire with this tobacco, clover, and grassy meadow scented candle from Forage Candles. This elegant, Middle Earth-inspired candle will look just as good on a shelf as it will next to the bath. Serve along with second breakfast in bed for the perfect gift!
This blazer is perfect for the Super Parent in your life. From the outside, it’s a snazzy red blazer. But surprise! The inside has a blue and white Wonder Woman stars pattern. And who doesn’t love a surprise lining? This is the perfect pick for anyone who needs a little Wonder Woman energy to help them take on everyday challenges. They do tend to run a little small, so be sure to order a size up.
